Generate Your Own Electricity From the Sun

Ever wondered how you can generate your own electricity?  Currently installed on the GlassHouse is a Photovoltaic Solar Planel system consisting of 18 235W Sharp panels for 4230 watts total installed. Can easily be upgraded to 5640 watts with no additional inside wiring or equipment. System designed to be upgraded to over 10,000 watts with no structural changes. Enough to fully power the home under normal usage. Solar system is connected to the internet for remote and local power production. System is grid tied to help turn the electric meter backwards or slower during the daytime and designed for decades of maintenance free electricity.

GLASS HOUSE 90′ ECO-FRIENDLY DOCK

The Glass House features a 90 foot dock that extends over the seawall cap to create an expansive water side lounge area and boat dockage for upto an 80 foot yacht. Zahn Development chose Ecolife™ wood for deck material. Ecolife™ is protected with a revolutionary, non-metallic preservative plus wood stabilizer system, offering the natural beauty of real wood combined with advancement in weathering protection, fastener performance, and environmental attributes. Ecolife™ Stabilized Weather-Resistant Wood, is the first decking product to receive NAHB Research Center National Green Building Certification as a “Green Approved Product”.

Glass House dock, almost complete

However before this beautiful dock could be bulit the old dock already on the lot had to be removed. In an to effort to divert waste from the landfill and even to reduce energy consumption of recycling, we collaborated with collegue Carlos del Amor, a NAR Green Designated Realtor from Coral Gables, Fl. In the following video Carlos explains how he coordinated the reclaiming of the old material to build a deck at another single family home in Miami.

PRESS RELEASE: LUXURY GREEN HOME TO BE LEED CERTIFIED

PRESS RELEASE A new environmentally-sound luxury waterfront home in Lighthouse Point , Fla. promised to save its owners as much as 50 percent in electrical costs, yet offers unique ultra contemporary features and quick deep water access to the Atlantic Ocean. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Dec 22, 2009 – In today’s depressed home market, real estate professionals are looking for creative ways to stand out.  One homebuilder in Broward County’s Lighthouse Point neighborhood is blending what he believes is a dual trend in both green living and contemporary design into a new home being built as the first LEED-certified luxury, waterfront home in Lighthouse Point and Broward County.  The home is expected to save its owners as much as 50 percent in energy costs and is proof that design does not have to suffer in the quest for sustainability.
“Today’s homebuyers are concerned about the environment and also want an alternative to the Mediterranean and Key West style homes that are so prevalent in South Florida,” said Andrew Zahn, LEED AP, with Zahn Development, a company that has been building high-end homes for more than 50 years.  “Buyers have been telling us for some time now that they want a one-story that’s not a ‘McMansion’.”
A LEED home has to adhere to a strict point-based certification system that measures how well a structure performs as a green home and is administered by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org/leed/homes).  The Zahns also are seeking certification from the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) Green Home Standard, a statewide program that addresses Florida climate-specific issues.
